Daily Fishing and Outdoor Report

Friday, November 16, 2012: Winds have backed off

Friday, November 16, 2012: Winds have backed off a bit and gotten more offshore. There is still a 5-foot swell but the beach is far more fishable than yesterday. And those who are fishing are catching. John K. had two bass – one keepable – on bunker this a.m., toward the south end. Chris K. had a 30-incher on clam or bunker. Reports of some swirl and splash action around mid-Island jetties, though that might be ocean herring, which are running huge this year.

No surfcasters are running into the law, which is a great relief since it was a touchy situation, all things considered. It remains a matter of avoiding beaches where active dune rebuilding is taking place.

Bow deer hunting in the outback has been enhanced a bit by the acorn blow-down from the storm. Folks hunting in contact areas – where woods and man meet – have also noticed heavy foraging on ground litter, i.e. blow-down vegetation. Unusually light roadside deer feeding, which is another sign of fat foraging in the woods.

I have to help a buddy find his wayward garvey. I’m all for humpin’ the boonies but when he called a pilot to take us up to do a flyover I bailed the hell out. I be the ground lookout.
