Thursday, September 04, 2008: Waves: Dropping 2- to 3- foot long period southerly swell. Water clarity: very good. Water temps: Mid-70s. Final days of fluking have been uneventful; lowered fishing pressure. Inlet areas had some triers. Reports I got included smaller than usual undersized fluke. Also, had a couple “very slow” reports by folks trying for multiple species. Down at the Holgate Rip there were a few small fluke to be had but it was fairly slow overall. No blues and even fewer bass. Hanna is looking a bit testier than yesterday. There is now meteoro-chatter about winds gusting to neat 70, with 35 mph sustained. The only up side is the remarkable speed the storm will assume in exiting. Still, it sure seems as if we’ll get some shutter rattling – something my old house just can’t take. The Island overall should not be overly strained. The quick come-and-go nature of Hanna should mean the impact on fishing (and bait migration) should be bare minimum. Croaker email: In referance to your Croaker report, down here in VA.we can't get away from them. Large to 3 or 4 lbs. Really one of the best fighting fish around lb.for lb. 5 miles off there are Dolphin small to 10 lbs. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Netter on the Reef: Jmann, Margaret at Jingles asked me to send you a photo of this odd looking netter which decided to drop his net in the middle of the GS South Reef. The ship was very odd looking, a combination of a pirate ship with a real crows nest with netting leading to the top, a 1940's whaler and a trawler. She was partnered with a spotter plane and dinghy's hanging off the side. The name of the ship was something like Tideline. You can zoom in and get a good look at the ship. The small boat to the left was part of the netting "pirate" crew. My kids thought Blackbeard was coming to get them. I enjoy your blog. I have had a link to your site on my home page for some time.
