"Quick ... I dare you to climb in that hole ... dumb ass."

Saturday, September 26, 2015: I don’t whiny and mumbly very often but this stint of northest windage has me that way … times seven … which is how many days we’ve been feeling this new non-tradewind. Even though SCAs are forecast to go into effect for tomorrow, they should be flying right now. I’m seeing gusts to 30 mph. And now the extended forecast has another batch of persistent NE winds muscling in during the coming week.

Many a shop relies on the push of all fishing and the only thing getting a push is the surf, as in ten feet high worth of sideways push down the beach. Really feeling the pain of the push is the LBI Fishing Club’s World Series of Surf Fishing. I swear that every year thee skies say, “What can we do to rough-up that event?”

Sure you can slip in here-and-there some surf fishing. In fact, I see where a few hard-corers tapped the surf for the last of fluke season. But I’ll be the first to admit that it takes damn decent conditions to get to bulk of fall anglers out in force. Which is what we want to see, especially with the fast approaching Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic.

Hey, you know you’re going to enter the Classic so why not do it early so those running the event, including any and all businesses that cash in on the increased flow of anglers in autumn,  can get a read on who’s already in and who has to be reminded.

You cannot believe the gifts and money – both annual prizes and special incentives for 2015 – sitting there waiting to be claimed. There is simple no better event on the entire eastern seaboard when it comes to the odds of winning something sweet.

Here’s just a small $howing … all of these being “special prizes.”

Oct 10 - $500 Cash Award for the largest Striped Bass Weighed In

Oct 25 - $500 Cash Award for the largest Striped Bass Weighed In

Nov 16 - $1000 Cash Award for largest Striped Bass Weighed In on Tourney Day Ending Nov. 16 in Honor of Frank Panzone.

RED DRUM - One $100 Cash Award for First Legal Red Drum

Speaking of sweet, the Classic T-Shirts are being gobbled up. Grab one quickly. The price is right and the graphics are kick-ass. What better way to show your seasonless dedication to LBI than wearing one of these Tees back home. Only $20!

Please note: There is a very dedicated group of folks working hard to make this classic event work. By entering, you not only help keep a tradition alive but you also become part of what is hoped to be a bright future for the contest. There are some big plans in place … providing the patronage is there. Each and every entry is quite vital.

Double “Good Luck!” – do you say “Break a tire”? --  goes out to our local brothers Martin (Jr.) and Ryan Truex as they race NASCAR this weekend.

Below: Ryan ...

Martin is in the “The Chase” segment of the Sprint series, this week’s race being held in New Hampshire. Ryan is regaining NASCAR momentum with his second race of the year in the Xfinity series, being held in an already weather-challenged Sparta Kentucky. Ryan’s race is tonight. Martin’s is tomorrow.

Below: Martin Truex Jr. (holding rod.) Below that .. his rod, so to speak.
