Daily Fishing and Outdoor Report
Sunday, November 30, 2014: It’s a dog day afternoon on LBI. No, the air temp isn't anywhere near tongue-dripping…Continue

"I hate Thanksgiving leftovers ... Hey, maybe they ain't half bad."
Saturday, November 29, 2014: Very nice fishing conditions, both beach and boat, though the beach will be seeing high tide all afternoon; clam seas and surf. The water has cleaned very…Continue
Icy time: "Oh, snap, we gotta do that again!"
Friday, November 27, 2014: Ain’t a day goes by I’m not as thankful as all get-out – as much for what I’ve got as what I’ve lived through, including some serious bible-bullet incidents -- those proverbial…Continue

Noon: Reports of a long thunder-like rumble. I felt it more than heard it here in Surf City. Lasted longer than normal thunder. Weird.
I talked with Weather Service and they said only thundersnow on radar was SW of Philly. Way too far away for us to hear. Double…Continue

Monday 24,2014: Nasty out there. South winds have kicked up an unusually powerful swell, pushing 5 feet. South winds usually produce weakish swells but today’s peaky wave action seems to have serious juice,…Continue

The manly way of handling suddenly arriving psychotic killers ...
Sunday, November 23, 2014: There’s no longer any hiding or making excuses for the wind and muck we’ve dealt with to date. And there’s more about to arrive. A semi-winter storm is on the horizon, though I’m bettin’ it won’t be nearly as wild…Continue
Saturday, November 22, 2014: I did the long hike onto the back mudflats of Holgate. It’s pushing a slid mile of mud slogging to reach there. It’s a mysterious place where wild horses ridden by naked ladies frolic freely. Hey, it was cold and actually kinda boring slogging along out there so I let my imagination free graze a bit, besides,…Continue

" ... Bear!!!!!!"
Friday, November 21, 2014: Remarkable blowout tide today, as fully expected. Dumb-ass gulls had a heyday downing bay scallops, trapped high-and-dry at low tide. The return of bay scallops continues, though there doesn't seem to be an explosion of them out there, meaning their recovery has leveled off. Still, it's…Continue
Thursday, November 20, 2014: It just doesn’t look any good out there. Hey, I gotta tell it like it is, as I now chronically do in this blog. The ocean clarity had improved yesterday evening and I had high hopes for cleanness today. The south tilt to the west wind screwed up that hopefulness. The water color is again brownish with a solid…Continue
Wednesday, November 19, 2014: For those of you who hid from the apparent coldness today, it was actually gorgeous out there.
After getting a new truck battery this a.m., I headed to Holgate, where I found squatola happening on the fishing and birding fronts. Even the resident snowl was nowhere…Continue

(Every now and once-in-awhile, I have to beg forgiveness for the typos that sneak in here, as I rapidly-plus try to get these blogs out and about. I assure you that 99.9 percent of my mistakes are truly grammatical overlooks. I’m actually well-taught when it comes to academic grammar, i.e. old-school learning, via…Continue

It's a good day to learn how to wink ...
Monday, November 17, 2014: I see a few fairly fine fish were taken out of the surf over the weekend. Boats had way better success. What else is new? I can’t recall a greater discrepancy…Continue

Friday, November 14, 2014: Yes, I saw the big snowflakes flying at midnight. I wasn’t impressed (above). I was depressed with the serious chill in the air as I tried to plug this a.m. I realize it’s not that cold but I was fishing in short sleeves a couple days ago. It’s called acclimation and I’m not even half way there as…Continue

"What the F .......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Thursday, November 13, 2014: looks like I wasn’t the only one caching bass yesterday. I had a buncha reports of real nice fish, though once again the boat action rules the roost when it comes to larger model fish. Dan S. caught his first keeper of the year using…Continue

6 p.m. Update
Lo and check it out, I got me six bass today. Oh, they weren't none too large, nowhere near being eligible for prizes, but it felt good tussling with a tassel of schoolies.
I did all my hookin' in Holgate, with four of the fish coming out of the back cut -- a place where I have found small stripers in falls past. Also missed four hits today in the same…Continue

Tuesday, November 11, 2014:
If you’re one of those weekend folks who cashed in the on striper boat bite in and north of Barnegat Inlet, may your days remain merry and bite. That was some rockin’ hookin’ -- at least for a while there.
That’s my quasi-upbeat…Continue

Sunday, November 09, 2014: I wish I had a slew of striper reports but despite passing hundreds of surfcasters between Surf City and Holgate the hand signals were almost all thumbs down. That’s not to say there…Continue
