Thursday, November 29, 2012: Another nice one out there. The fishing is fair to good – and quite easy on the surfcasting front. West winds are brisk but far from fierce. It’s easy to watch spiked poles and catch even the slightest sign of a something toying with…

Wednesday, November 28, 2012: I took the long walk to the Holgate rip this a.m. and it was an eye-opener – but not in the way you might think.

You can see in the videos that there were some crossover points where ocean met bay, almost exclusively near the Osprey Nest zone. That’s the erosion area we’ve long figured would see bay meet sea. Sure enough. And the future for that skinny…

Late report: I got disturbing news that our buddy Frank Panzone passed away. What a loss. He was a huge advocate of fishing on LBI, keeping Holgate open and an essential member of the LBI Surf Fishing Classic committee. He was one of the creators of the Chowderfest. Frank had apparently cancelled his usual trip to Florida to remain here for the storm. The family had been preparing to get…

Boats still trapped on Manahawkin meadows -- far back reaches. These are some very decent vessels that I'm sure are being sought by their owners. Tomorrow I'm going to try to hike back and get reg numbers.

Monday, November 19, 2012; Winds and waves won’t quit. And it was damn dank out there to boot. Understandably low fishing pressure.
Got a few reports of nice fat just-keeper bass in the surf and around inlets. Much larger fish after dark in some select areas.
Belly contents are heavily sand eels, shedder crabs, sand crabs and those big-ass mantis shrimp. One bass (last week)…

Friday, November 16, 2012: Winds have backed off a bit and gotten more offshore. There is still a 5-foot swell but the beach is far more fishable than yesterday. And those who are fishing are catching. John K. had two bass – one keepable – on bunker this a.m., toward the south end. Chris K. had a 30-incher on clam or bunker. Reports of some swirl and splash action…

Wednesday, November 14, 2012: Very nice day. Even the chill feels sweet since it’s stymieing the mold growth – so I can get in some fishing.
