Sunday Nov. 6, 2011:

(It is that humbling time of year when I hold the hat out for my one annual donation drive. I’m heading toward my 15th year and I promise there are a load of various expenses. Every donated penny goes to covering costs. I also want to assure that I absolutely do not EXPECT donations from anyone. Some folks have annually been kind – and I want them -- and all -- to realize that I’m thankful for past help but fully understand some years are better than others. Donations can be mailed to: Jay…

Sat. Nov. 5, 2011

Sat. Nov. 5, 2011:

Ok, so maybe I blew it a bit. I had thought it would be a friendlier fishing day, instead the winds held their own for much of the day. However, a number of bass were caught by the limited number of folks willing to do serious time tossing heavy lead into the suds.

I always marvel over the question, "How mush does it take to hold?" Firstly, there ain't no holdin' when currents are crankin'. On the other hand, positioning one's self on the lee side…

Thur. Nov. 3, 2011

Thur. Nov. 3, 2011:

South winds spells stripers. A real decent surge in bass took place for bait anglers today. Boat fishermen were also in on the action, near inlets. The hooking was spread from BL to Holgate. Better bass are in the 20-pound range, i.e. real nice but not at all threatening to the top fish in the Classic.

Look for a windy but high surf fishing potential weekend, with wind switches and a bout of south mixed in. Fishing pressure is already building as of this…

There are widely scattered stripers out there, mainly going for bunker chunks or clams.  The bass hook-up rate is nowhere near where we should be but, daily, I see a few new weigh-ins for the Classic. I also chatted with a dayhopper who called me to say be decided to try jigging approach,…

Nov. 1 and weekly blog

Tuesday, November 01, 2011: Some serious north windage but nothing along stormy lines. In fact, sunny skies made for some ideal fishing – including some decent bites.

I had three separate reports of some fine stripering on both bait and plugs. The Classic showed same, with 13 weigh-ins, 10 bass and 3 blues, mainly mid-island south. Best bass was 28.25 and best blue was 12.56. All Classic fish went for bunker. However, J.L. had a keeper bass on a diving plug. Another good bass…
