Wednesday, February 02, 2011: Morning report.
And the rains came – after some nasty-ass freezing mist last night. As I came home from work around midnight, my front porch was NHL-ready. Warmth later in the night dissolved that nonsense.
It seems we are officially out of snow cover. After well over a month of white stuff covering the ground, less than 50 percent of the ground is still whited over. That means that one of the longest protracted stays of snow cover in recent years is officially ended. In fact, many nearby mainland areas are free of 75 percent of the lingering snow. Good riddance. Moving the melting cause along will be a burst of downright mild air today, pushing temps to 50 or better. I’m up to the mid-40s at 9 a.m.
The next scheduled storm should be yet another mainly rain event but the closeness of cold air will keep freezing precip in the forecast hopper. Once again, we seem to be edging to normalcy and above. Next week will be a huge indicator or whether or not La Nina impacts will even show this winter.
Thanks to Steve G. of Manahawkin for this plugmaking-related info:
