The winds were moderately crazy out of the west but it made little difference to a large holiday weekend angling crowd. A combination of clean ocean conditions and super sunny weather lead to a damn decent showing of stripers and blues into the Classic. A couple of the bass were over 20 pounds. There were also a goodly number of non-tourney stripers, per a fellow I met in Wawa who had two keeper to take home (Burlington County). “I got them within 20 minutes then it went dead.” He was using both bunker and clam and went one-for-one on each type of bait.
Sorry I didn’t give due mention of Brian McAlliaster’s excellent 39.94 bass caught Nov. 28 in Holgate, not far from the parking area. He got it on bunker. Brian was that close to offering the second 40-pounder. That places him in second place, so top speak, in the Classic. I realize there is all that superfine segment, weekly and daily winnings stuff but the way the Classic is now displayed lends itself to emphasizing the overall biggest-fish leaders.
