Saturday eve, May 18, 2013: I should have guessed that if I’m able to catch a keeper bass in the surf after just a few casts, the stripers must be swarming. Sure enough. I got back from some Outback stuff and message caches were thick as bricks, with many folks having epic fishing days.

Per usual, the subdued lighting, better known as cloudiness, kept the bite from taking its usual high-sun siesta.

My oldest son with his first ASAC tournament striper! 31". Caught in Brigantine this morning. He's starting to get the hang of it.

Fluking reports were mainly shots of the biggest flatties of the day – and the high-hook looks were impressive, some looking five-poundish. At the same time, I read and heard a goodly number of folks limiting out. That is not at all common for mid-May.

I just checked out this Dante report of perfect eating-size black drumfish. (Above) Look at this pic to see some happy campers.
