Friday, November 26, 2010:

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the huge load of surfcasters and boat fishermen converging on the Island. I kinda expected the bigger holiday angler push yesterday but today saw a total deluge of anglers hitting the tackle shops then the beaches and boats. And for once the fish rose to meet the demand. There was a super showing of bass in the 20-lb range, mainly the south end – though quite a few keeper bass were caught along most areas of LBI.

I’m sticking with my conjecture that the schoolie bass have simply gotten to the point where they’re easily over 28 inches. They are taking chunks of bunker and also globs of clams. The fish are also readily going after artificials, as I found at out dark. Mid-Island. OK, maybe a day late but I tabled a fat-as-all-get-out 30-incher. It took a Wildeye. I had another one on just prior to my take-home. It wasn’t the same fish since the first one was on plenty long enough to scare the crapolski out of him.

Boat fishing has also been showing fun hooking, though the north end seems the hotter heading.

Lots of headboat and charter boat sails today. I’ll see how they did later.

Classic had dozens of weigh-ins today. Again, it’s those grown-up schoolies making the tourney grade this year.

Night fishing on the bridges. Please don’t beep when you go by – even if you’re just offering a friendly “Hey.”

Pheasant and partridges are being released again tonight over on Road-to-Nowhere, Stafford Forge, etc. If you’re using a dog tomorrow make sure to have an orange vest on I – and maybe a flack jacket. There are simply too many hunters out there to allow dogs to run without color.

Addendum to my appeal to use tackle shops: A number of shops are also selling online for “Cyber Monday.”

I’m checking on the lost gear mentioned in an email to me weekly blog. I’ve had a couple folks who lost their set-ups. I won’t be able to check with the finder until Monday. I’ll keep folks posted. Thanks for the responses.

It’s the time of year I’m taking subject matter for winter writing. In the past I’ve gotten some great ideas and questions from website readers. If you can think of cool, weird or confounding subject matter, I’m up for doing the research and such. By the by, I have some great contacts at local, county, state and even federal levels to answer really perplexing political-ish issues.
