I am an avid fisherman living in Ship Bottom- i recently had some friends down so got some crab pots- not cheap- and dropped them in off the island just south of the grassy island at the end of east bay ave- used a boat.
I got to use them for 4 days before they were stolen. From what i understand it is commonplace for knuckleheads to go and help themselves- i guess it is easy pickings if you are staying on the waterfront, just sit there and wait for the traps to go in, then steal them at dark. Or just snatch them with your boat hook as you pass by??? Makes me want to stick to fishing!!
I know the floats are a dead giveaway. I was thinking if i even bother crabbing again to not use a float, just tether the pot to the bank using some curved rebar and a sinking line. What gives? anyone else have the same prolem?? it really is lame.
