Daily Fishing and Outdoor Report
ALERT: Beaches being closed due to washed up drug paraphernalia.
Right now, it seems to be syringes and such from combined sewer overflow, in the wake of heavy rains, followed by protracted northeast winds. Those winds blow North Jersey's sewer crap -- crack vials and syringes, most notably -- our way. It's like North Jersey is sticking it to us -- pun intended.
It should be noted that such wash-ups should not be arbitrarily portrayed as "medical waste," which must, by definition, originate in a medical facility. This is closer to wayward drug paraphernalia -- unless there is proof of it being flagrant violations by doctors, dentists, hospitals, etc. Those offences are serious felonies, as opposed to the street-level littering of drug abusers, seldom-enforced misdemeanors.
This proves again that they have to get their s*** together just to our north and update a sewer system that, when flooded, releases hideous stuff into the ocean to drift our was – on a frickin’ gorgeous weekend much less.
