Daily Fishing and Outdoor Report
Sunday, September 07, 2014:
After that flashy frontal passage yesterday afternoon/night, it took much of the morning for the day to shed the lingering cloudiness. But once it did the look was rain-washed and sweet. Admittedly, the north winds were a bit of a put-off for angling but there is always some place to boat fish in the bay, regardless of wind-age.
Boaters: SCA up tomorrow for NE winds topping 25 knots with higher gusts. If you’re heading home…Continue

Friday, September 05, 2014: Sweet out there … though more than a bit sultry. It’s sauna material i.e. what is should have been like all summer. I’ve chatted with more than a few folks who had refreshingly avoided using their AC units up until now. Still, the electric saved to this point will easily be greater than what we have to generate during this short spurt of sultriness. I hate to bring it up but our electric bills could look hideous should the just-okayed Atlantic City…Continue

Thursday, September 04, 2014: Things lookin’ great out there. The weekend is lookin; kinda gusty, though winds might have a lot of west to them. Then we fall into a north to northeast flow. As is always the case, you play the angling game as it unfolds – not as the forecasters foretell.
Bunker pods are still balled up off various sections of LBI, including my lookout zone in Surf City. In fact, something has spooked some pods well within…Continue

Wednesday, September 03, 2014: There is currently enough bunker off the Surf City beaches to start a fish factory. On occasion, the outer bands of the main bunker biomass are in close enough to reach with a heavy Hopkins. The problem is the proverbial “Nothin’ hittin’ ‘em.”
As I plugged the beach, I did see a couple flare-ups, mainly out about two hundred yards out – near a white buoy. Those splashes are signs of smaller…Continue

Tuesday, September 02, 2014: Typical insane Tuesday at work – till late.
Look for west winds tomorrow. I’m hyped for Holgate but oh could that wind mean greenheads.
I’ve gotten even more reads on a wicked winter coming our way. While that frigidity might play out by December (or later), I still hold to it being a brisk and very fishy fall. Please sign up early for the…Continue

Monday, September 01, 2014: In case you didn’t have your skin turned on today, it was sultry out there. And if you decided to check out the partially opened Holgate end, it was sultry spiced with green – as in greenhead flies. I suppose they’re no worse than any year but after I had as bug-free summer as my memory would allow, just feeling that bounce, as greenies feel for a landing zone, sent me into shutters. I’m one of those folks with skin that takes even a…Continue
