Wednesday June 6, 2012

Wednesday, June 06, 2012: Wind went west overnight and the swell dropped down a bit, less choppy. They’ve gone back onshore at ESE but not with much authority. As they swing SE, they’ll pick up. The surf fishing potential is to moderate to high. Clams should match the…

Tarpon Takes Off With a Hand;

It’s Getting Gnasty Out There

GIVE THAT TARPON A HAND: I had a few folks email the down south psuedo-catastrophe story of the fellow fighting a monster tarpon during a tournament in Florida and having his hand ripped clean off – and swum away with, much less. The victim’s name was Jack Wiseman.

Weirdly, my first web read on the story included a photograph of a friend of Wiseman, laughing…

SEN. SCHUMER ANNOUNCES SENATE MAGNUSON HEARINGS

Says Expected Capitol Hill Discussions With Fishermen "Long Overdue"

(6/4/2012)  Following five years of diminished access, and a pair of national rallies in Washington DC, it appears that coastal fishermen will finally get a chance to be heard before the U.S. Senate.

United…

Monday June 4, 2012

Monday, June 04, 2012: Weird weather, eh? If you were mid-Island in the late a.m. you got soaked to the gills. Man it came down. Then a north wind muscled in with authority. Half-day boats zipped in pretty much on schedule. I got word of lots of shark action – blues and makos. I’ll take the second, that’s for sure.

RUNDOWN: Good, bad and in-between. While this is more often than not the tale of fishing the Jersey Shore, it has been markedly so of late. Surfing through tackle…

Sat. June 2, 2012

Saturday, June 02, 2012: Hey, it’s not half bad out there. I mean the weather is drop-dead gorgeous but the predicted wicked winds aren’t all that honking. Ocean is boat doable, despite a 3- to-4-foot swell (diminishing). In fact, I notice even the Weather Service is down-grading the wind threats, though there will still be some goodly gusts – at some point or another

I was surprised to take a 68-degree water temp in SB suds – part of my rip tide work with the US Weather…

Friday June n1, 2012

Friday, June 01, 2012: Winds got kinda testy today, out of the NE. However, it looks like ti might be perking the bass bite -- as these winds oft do. Cow news comes via Simply Bassin’ where Jason Hoch’s 41/6 cow came ashore late this afternoon in Ship Bottom. Jason, a.k.a. Jay, used bunker to entice the very fat 46-incher. It was weighed in at Fishheads. It’s in 2nd place in the tourney and in 1st Place in the FHQ’s Calcutta, run concurrently with Simply…

June 1 -- Updated simply Basssin' Leaderboard

Bigger bass are in the surf mix. Weekend winds could be tricky but the trophy fish are afoot.  Just in: Jason Hoch – connected to The SandPaper family – busted into 2Nd place with his mid-Island cow.
