Water temps finally bumped up a few degrees this morning and the surf fluke are starting to respond. Got 2 keepers this morning at 4.5lbs. and 3lbs. Had consistent bucktail fluke action for almost 3 weeks before the cold water arrived on the 4th. Then it became a pick. Had been averaging 2-3 keepers a day with the biggest going 5.5 lbs. Been hitting spots from one end of the island to the other. No particular tide because I fish first light anyway. Only the wind has been a factor. Almost keeper… Continue

Picking at the bass around the inlet and surf on plastic when you can get it past the blues. Haven't seen much in the way of baitfish.

Between the wind and the bluefish carnage my bass bite has gone to a pick each day, although I broke 450 bass for the year yesterday and hit 453 this morning in the rain, then the cocktail blues woke up. Zero weakfish for the last week. Got a nice 18" fluke on a zoom, it was hard to release, probably won't see any that size once the season opens.

Bass were a pick yesterday, only 4 on plastic, all small, no weakies, lots of blues of varied sizes. This morning no weakies, 11 bass two of which were 29" & 30" on plastics and poppers, Then the HUGE choppers showed up and the bass went into hiding. Saw some spearing, but no big baits around. I wish bluefish stayed away until the 4th of July. Might head back out for the afternoon high tide. When the wife's away, ya fish all day!

Dropped a decent Weakie at my feet in the dark this morning, only one. Schoolies turned on to poppers after sunrise in the fog at dead low, nailed 15 and at least as many Blues. Water temps back up near 60.
