Daily Fishing and Outdoor Report
Tuesday, September 30, 2014: I have to lead with this very upbeat report from Mike K. : (First bass of fall) Hit a TW green popper right at my feet. Scared the crap out of me. Looked to be about 26 inches but very heavy. Fat. Got him back in the water quickly so didn't weigh him or take a picture.…Continue

Monday, September 29, 2014: What a nice little day it has become, now that the cloudiness has burnt off.
I’m lookin’ at the weather computers and damn if we’re not going to see a repeat of the…Continue

Saturday, September 27, 2014: A.M. read.
It’s a gorgeous day out there and winds are not as hard as I first expected, amakingfor decent surfcasting conditions.
I didn’t get up to the…Continue

Thursday, September 25, 2014: So, what should we talk about? Rainy day drivel is the worst.
Undrivelish is the need to get signed up for the 2104 Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic. If nothing else, your signing up early helps the folks…Continue

Wednesday, September 24, 2014: The winds today were your standard intro into a moderate nor’easter, though it won’t be until tomorrow that the honkin’ 30-plus mph gusts kick in.
The wave action came up very quickly today, possibly enhanced by some lingering ground swell action. By sunset today, it was six to eight feet and will build as the gale factors in. There will be some significant beach cutaways, so buggyists…Continue

Monday, September 22, 2014: It’s a workday beauty out there. I hope to take an afternoon break to check out the south end – though I’ll then have to make up for it at my desk, after dark.
Below is a video of the large groundswell attacking the LBI sandbars. There are some thick and powerful six-foot waves, with larger faces. These waves will make things a tad difficult for surfcasting, though the fishing…Continue

Friday, September 19, 2014: Better to have a crapped day today than tomorrow.
Today certainly had a bit of an attitude. Steady 20 mph northeast winds were anything but user-friendly for boat…Continue

Monday, September 15, 2014: First I have to offer a bit of an apology. I posted my Sunday “daily” in here then went on a protracted run to Holgate and such. By the time I got back to the computer (late), my segment on vehicles bogging down in the sand…Continue

Sunday, September 14, 2014: The early-day west winds have quickly swung around to become suddenly all-too-common northeast winds, though they’re no blowing real hard…Continue

Saturday, September 13, 2014: I hope you didn’t have any big fishing plans for today. A complex weather mess to our south – where they’re getting deluged – is drawing in Saturday-ruining NE’erlies, to 20 mph early. .
This is purely a one-day system, and possibly a return/start of the one-day-and-done blows that have become the winter norm for almost the past 10 years.
Naturally, it’s way too early to make a precise call on how storm will manifest this winter,…Continue

Wednesday, September 10, 2014: I’m waiting out the east winds – and enjoying the surprise sunniness. Although the winds are already going south (late afternoon), it’ll take until tomorrow night’s frontal passage to calm seas down and straighten up the waves. Could get a tad sweltry tomorrow. Maybe a thunderboomer late. With the new Facebook phenomena, folks are lovin' any storm they can focus in on for a photo. Works for me. I look at every one of them. Pics are my…Continue

Tuesday, September 09, 2014: Geez, just a couple days into a minor nor’easter and I’m already tired of the onshores. The upside is the blow is not as testy as first predicted, though it could pick up again later…Continue

Monday, September 08, 2014: The nor ‘easterly winds have arrived as scheduled. It’s honkin’ one good out there – but nothing we don’t see a couple/few dozen times a year. The problem is the winds may stay longer than first forecasted. Look for east to northeast winds at steady 20 mph, touching 30 mph tonight, lasting into Wednesday. It’s lookin’ a bit like an old-fashioned three-day nor’easter – which have become very uncommon in recent decades. Growing up,…Continue
