Daily Fishing and Outdoor Report
Saturday, March 30, 2013: Such a day, though it’s still one of those one-and-done beauties. Rain by tomorrow, then, dare I say it, unseasonably chilly air returns, with below freezing night temps in the Pines by next week.…

The Chamber is bailing on the Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic:
I’m going to pass this on, as is. It is a tough message to digest. It means the Chamber is bailing on…Continue

Saturday, March 23, 2013: So you can get pissed at me in, say, July, I’ll warn you right now that this cruelly clinging winter (more storms and maybe snow to come) will very likely segue into a hideously hot summer; I’m talking killer…Continue
Thursday, March 21, 2013:
See full story in news section below: a new reef, encompassing about a square mile of ocean floor, will be constructed in state waters in an area north of Barnegat Inlet to be used exclusively for recreational fishing.
Snowflakes continue to dandruff down upon us, though it’s way too warm for any sticking…Continue
The Fish Story
The following is anything but an amusing story. It’s just so frickin’ freaky that outdoorists like myself have to say, “WTF?! And I’ll also be…

A Dana Point fisherman who caught a world-record 427-pound tuna captured an even bigger prize to go with it - $1 million.
Guy Yocom won the prize in hook maker Mustad's "Hook a Million" promotion and received his award at last week's Fred Hall Fishing Show in Long Beach. Yocom broke the International Game Fish Association's all-tackle world record…

Below is a release about a serious bust over the illegal taking of glass eels. Over 24,000 eels in-hand, it's unknown how many more trips these poachers had made before getting caught.
Take note since our nape of the woods is a prime target for poachers feasting, fiscally speaking, on these now highly threatened American eel young.

The Pew Charitable Trusts applauded stronger protection for sharks and rays achieved at the CITES meetings currently going on in Bangkok. The addition of five species of sharks and two species of manta rays will now be subject to international trade regulation under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES, a move that could save…Continue

I know I exhausted my storm-writing welcome in my last weekly blog but I just have to offer a few parting words about Storm Saturn. That girl was a superfreak. I kid you not. And I've been watching weather like a hawk…Continue

Friday, March 08, 2013: As expected, the beaches took a brutal, albeit fairly typical, beating from Winter Storm Saturn. Merivale to Nelson in Beach Haven is now getting trucked in sand to aid in yet another mechanical (dozer) fix of that dead-in-the–water stretch of Queen City beachline. The only salvation there will be replenishment, possibly coming in the…Continue

'Tis indeed a bit strange out there.
I just did a cruise-about and even flood-prone, mid-Island locales are showing a nearly bizarre lack of flooding commensurate with what are some truly impressive sustained winds. In fact, I have to give this blow it dues: It shook the rafters here at my office and also at home. It gets an A+ for gust frequency. They just kept coming, far closer together than what we saw with Sandy – though she was obviously a whole different -- and deadlier --…Continue

(Above: Good early call by the Weather Service, days ago.)
Wednesday, March 06, 2013: Yep, it’s a blowin’ – but in an orderly manner.
We sidestepped what was supposed to be a protracted stint of easterly winds, up to 8 hours.
Yes, the winds are now technically out of the…Continue

Let’s talk storms this week. Please. I promise to make it interesting. Besides, sky convulsions continue to be the big headliners, as we get cluster stormed upon.
This week’s wind whacking highlights the over-riled reactions attached to each and every arriving storm. I want to add…
